Growing Completely Into Christ

November 23, 2009

taken from Fr. Bob’s homily of Nov. 22/09

Lord, what is holding me back? What is holding us back from going higher and further into Your plans for us?
What needs to change in my life? What needs to change in our lives as a community? Wht needs to change LORD in my/our attitude and our behavior? What life cycles do I need to break free from?

The status quo has got to go!

Spirit, You who search the depths of everyone, search my depths. Root out all that is buried deep there, all the hidden sin that I’ve turned a blind eye to for so long. All the old hurts and resentments and grudges that I cling to. Bring them all into the light so that I can repent and hand them over to You so You can take them to the cross for healing and forgiveness. Spirit, search my depths.

Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:20, 21

Detachment

By Clarence J. Enzler

Detachment

SELF-MASTERYCONQUETING SELF

what does it profit a man? (Mk. 8:36)

My chosen one, realize your unbelievably good fortune. I have indeed invited you to be not merely another Christ but to be My other self, identified with Me.

You want to be My other self, but you also want to pamper your passions and animal appetites. You cannot do both. You cannot be My other self, unless you put off yourself.

My love can live alongside other loves as long as they are not contrary to My love and My love is supreme. Indeed I command you to love one another as I have loved you. But no contrary love, whether of person or of thing, must be allowed to supplant your love for Me. You must control and conquer all desires that do lead you away from Me.

It is not possible for you to be vain, loving flattery, wishing to set yourself above others and still be My other self.

It is not possible for you to be overly sensitive, vindictive, full of controversy, in love with your own opinions, and be My other self.

You cannot be covetous, lustful, gluttonous, full of envy and be My other self.

All these are forms of self-worship. Renounce them, purge yourself of them. And let there be no half measures

November 4, 2009 – The Poverty of Our Leaders

November 9, 2009

The Poverty of Our Leaders
Henri Nouwen

There is a tendency to think about poverty, suffering, and pain as realities that happen primarily or even exclusively at the bottom of our Church. We seldom think of our leaders as poor. Still, there is great poverty, deep loneliness, painful isolation, real depression, and much emotional suffering at the top of our Church.

We need the courage to acknowledge the suffering of the leaders of our Church – its ministers, priests, bishops, and popes – and include them in this fellowship of the weak. When we are not distracted by the power, wealth, and success of those who offer leadership, we will soon discover their powerlessness, poverty, and failures and feel free to reach out to them with the same compassion we want to give to those at the bottom. In God’s eyes there is no distance between bottom and top. There shouldn’t be in our eyes either.

Hello All,

Each day gets a bit better. I’m not walking around with my shoulders slumped or anything, however it’s an adjustment on a number of levels and I am still weepy and missing you all terribly.

Some really great stuff too though. Of course the Bible study group I’ve joined is something I look forward to each week and with that comes developing relationships. Also, just the other day now I contacted Lilians sister Sylvia. We connected really well and now have plans to get together next Sat. First we’ll go for Worship at an Alliance Church then to a Catholic mass after that, all in Vernon. As you might imagine , I’m very much looking forward to that. She is obviously very knowledgable about what’s happening in Vernon. I’m gathering that there is indeed a buzz there for the desire for Worship.

I’m also doing some volunteer work with what they call ‘Santa’s Workshop’ here in Enderby. Again, getting to know new people and enjoying helping out with the cause.

I’m researching in the area of what the greatest needs are here in the valley for the elderly. I’m just a few days into it. Having been given some great guidance and support from a few people, I’m taking the advice and help and going with it all.

I’m really so very fortunate that I have no time line I have to keep.
All Glory and Praise belong to you Jesus!!

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
