News from Maria in Peru

January 25, 2011

Huangascar is a little town lost in the middle of the Andes mountains located at 2,700 meters above sea level. Its people are mainly indigenous. You get there by taking a gravel road which is so narrow that only one car can pass at a time. In places, it is scary to look down from the car at the edge of the road to the valley below. To go there you have to have your own transportation or use a very old bus that goes there only once a week.People live from their little plots of land and sometimes raise guinea pigs, sheep, or cows. This is a place really isolated from the world. Poverty is acute. In 2007, an earthquake, 7.9 on the Ritcher scale, collapsed many of the houses and key institutions in the town such as the church, school and the Mothers’ Club.I’ve been in Huangascar a few times; one of those times a LJH mission came with me. Since then we have been contributing to the construction of the Mothers’ Club, a building created to help the needs of the most destitute in the town and surrounding areas.

Our involvement with Huangascar has not been easy or comfortable. It never is when we have to start from scratch and there is only faith sustaining us – the faith of Abraham that calls things that are not as if they were, things have been happening in His way and in His time.  Sometimes it was working against all odds to the point people thought I was crazy. Initially, in 2008, I went to Huangascar in obedience. I had been told about the existence of this town by my family. When I saw the condition of poverty of the people, I knew it was God’s will to be there. What to do, how to do it, learning to listen to Him…so much that only a miracle could work things out. Part of that miracle was when LJH agreed to make Huangascar part of its mission.

The initial budget for the construction came to about US$65,000 (an architect did the design of the Mothers’ Club using the feedback of the mothers). Somehow with a lot of sacrifice from people that donated not only their money but their work (including the builder and women of the town), the main structure is finished. There is still need for about US$10,000 to complete the construction (doors, windows, tiles, washrooms, etc.). See the latest photos of the Mothers’ Club below.

If going to Huangascar is difficult, can you imagine taking the bricks and cement and all the materials for the construction? There have been people working there for over 10 hours a day for less than $10. Strong men used to playing soccer in high altitudes were the workers. There was no money to pay an architect to supervise the construction on a regular basis; but the builder who has a lot of experience in construction took over and did amazing work.

His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. If we see Jesus in the poor the supernatural move of God comes. Yes, there is spiritual oppression (Opus Dei, the right wing of the Catholic church is in the area), corruption, physical constraints and much more. Thanks be to God, it is not by our own strength but by His mighty power and He will complete what He has started.

Many thanks, to all those in the LJH community that trusted and donated for the construction of the Mothers’ Club in Huangascar, and everyone else outside of LJH as well.

2011: The Year of Opening Doors, Dec. 8th, 2010

Someone had asked me to share on what the Lord has been telling me about 2011. Honestly had not even gotten that far. But today in talking to a friend. Prophecy started coming out as I began to type. Then tonight a series of impressions and I got the words, “this coming year will be a year of open doors” so came to computer to write down what He might say. This was a different means of the Lord speaking to me in some ways.

He is the Door
The Way is through prayer, worship, & declaring the promises of God in His Word. Acts 15:16-17 NKJV ‘After! this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up; 17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the Lord who does all these things.’ In David’s temple there was 24/7 worship and prayer. The Lord indicated to have more communion with Him, all the more as the time of His appearing comes closer. This means more INTIMACY with Him which we know comes from prayer, reading of the word and meditating on it, and worship brings the presence.
Presence also comes from living the WORD. That isn’t mentioned much but is so true. When the LORD sends you into the store to get milk and you have a divine appointment and follow through with what HE tells you, THAT also brings presence. Signs and wonders will follow the preaching of the WORD–However it is preached! It is HIS compassion moving through you that will bring miracles. And this will be a year for miracles as His glory increases. The times will require more intimacy to keep our sanity. Many will have to give up their homes and property due to hardships, but the LORD will restore and we will have what we need. Those in the world will not even have that. (more…)
